At Whangārei Sikh Youth Club, we are committed to creating meaningful opportunities for youth and the wider community to connect through Sikhi, culture, storytelling, and the arts.
We are proud to invite filmmaker, writer, and producer Amanmeet Singh alongside members of the creative team, including UK producer of Chardikala Studios Aman Rattan (Shabad Kour) and member of the Kent Saheli Group UK womens charity, for a special evening of film screenings, discussion, and community engagement in Whangārei, New Zealand.
This event will feature the screening of two community led short films, Tu Te Main and Coffee Grounds, alongside the new Punjabi feature film PEED, starring Amanmeet Singh. The community led short films have been jointly arranged by sangat in UK organisations Kent Saheli Group charity number 1140297 and Guru Hargobind Sahib Gurdwara charity number 1127047. Through these projects, audiences will explore stories connected to Punjabi identity, migration, memory, community, and the Sikh experience across generations.
The evening will also include a live Q&A session with the filmmakers and creatives, offering young people and community members from Whangarei Youth Sikh Club the opportunity to discuss filmmaking, storytelling, Sikh representation in media, and the importance of preserving authentic voices through the arts.
As a youth focused organisation, we believe events like these help inspire the next generation to engage with creativity, culture, and community while strengthening their connection to Sikhi and Punjabi heritage. We look forward to welcoming the community for an evening of conversation, learning, and storytelling.
Event address: Glenbervie Hall Society, 236 Ngunguru Road, RD 3, Glenbervie, Whangarei 0173.
Past Events
We believe that community support and seva are essential values within Sikhi. Alongside youth programmes and cultural activities, we regularly organise initiatives that focus on kindness, unity, and supporting local families.
One of our recent community initiatives, 'Sharing Food, Spreading Love', was organised in Whangārei as a free food support event for local families and individuals. Through this initiative, community members were invited to collect essential items including milk, bread, and butter in a welcoming and supportive environment. The event reflected the Sikh principles of seva (selfless service), equality, and community care, values that continue to guide our organisation and inspire our youth.
We are grateful to the volunteers, supporters, and local community members who contributed their time and effort to help make the initiative possible. Events like these remind us of the importance of standing together, supporting one another, and creating positive change through collective action.
We hope to continue organising meaningful projects that encourage compassion, social responsibility, and active community engagement among younger generations.
Whangārei Sikh Youth Club continues to support and organise programmes that strengthen spiritual connection, community unity, and Sikh learning within the local sangat.
One of our recent community gatherings was a special Kirtan Darbar programme held in Whangārei in remembrance of the Shaheedi (martyrdom) month of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The event brought together members of the local Sikh community for an evening of Gurbani Kirtan, spiritual reflection, and sangat.
The programme included kirtan and katha led by respected Sikh speakers and ragis, including Bhai Bachittar Singh Ji Anmol (NZ Wale), creating a peaceful and welcoming environment for sangat of all ages. Families and youth from across the community attended to listen, reflect, and participate together in remembrance and prayer.
Events such as these play an important role in helping younger generations stay connected to Sikh teachings, Gurbani, and community traditions while strengthening the spirit of unity within the local Sikh community.
We remain committed to supporting religious, cultural, and educational initiatives that encourage learning, seva, and engagement with Sikhi in meaningful and accessible ways.
Whangārei Sikh Youth Club has proudly supported and promoted a range of spiritual and community centred programmes that bring the local sangat together through Gurbani, Sikh teachings, and collective reflection.
As part of a wider New Zealand tour, the local Sikh community welcomed respected Sikh preacher and spiritual speaker Jathedar Sant Baba Avtar Singh Ji Sursingh Wale during a special visit to Auckland and surrounding communities.
The gathering provided an opportunity for members of the sangat to come together for spiritual discussion, Gurbani vichaar, and religious engagement rooted in Sikh values and tradition. Community members from different age groups attended to listen, reflect, and participate in the welcoming of the visiting Sikh figure.
Programmes such as these continue to play an important role in strengthening spiritual awareness and preserving Sikh traditions within diaspora communities, while also encouraging younger generations to stay connected to Sikhi and the wider sangat.
We remain committed to supporting events that encourage unity, learning, faith, and community participation across New Zealand’s Sikh communities.
During a recent New Zealand tour, members of the local Sikh community gathered to welcome Sant Baba Amarik Singh Ji during a special arrival and community programme held in Auckland. The event brought together sangat members from different regions to participate in welcoming ceremonies, spiritual discussion, and community interaction.
The gathering created an opportunity for community members and youth to connect with Sikh teachings, traditions, and religious values in a respectful and meaningful environment. Events such as these help strengthen the connection between younger generations and the wider Sikh community while preserving important cultural and spiritual traditions within the diaspora.
Whangārei Sikh Youth Club remains committed to supporting programmes that promote faith, community connection, and collective participation through Sikhi centred initiatives across New Zealand.
